Happiness through fishing.

Welcome to
The Angling Companion.

Ever since I started fishing as a child, I’ve felt a therapeutic benefit to being on, in or beside the water. There is an increasingly strong body of evidence to suggest I am not alone (see section below). Through The Angling Companion my aim is to help other people experience the same benefits and joy that angling has given me.

    Angling Companionship

The links between fishing and both physical and mental health are well established (see below). I am currently training to be a psychodynamic counsellor and while I am not offering a counselling service, I would be delighted to sit with you in companionable silence or offer a listening ear while you cast a line.

I am an Angling Trust Event Lead Coach Level 2 with access to a range of waters around Hertfordshire. Whether you’ve never fished before or would like a refresher on key techniques then I’d be delighted to help you discover the joys of different types of fishing.

  • The Angling Companion provides a guiding service for fishermen around Hertfordshire.

    Guiding

Whether you want to chase trout, grayling or carp on the fly; or lure fish for pike or perch then I’d be delighted to try to put you onto fish in some beautiful locations around Hertfordshire.

Richard and I have fished together many times. He is in the 20% of anglers that catch 80% of the fish and is knowledgeable, patient, and good to talk to. When we last fished the R Avon together, the first evening was fine and we caught a number of Grayling and Trout, but the second day looked like a wash out - a long heavy storm meant the river had burst its banks and looked unfishable. Undaunted Richard showed me how to switch techniques on the main river and to target some tributaries. After another good day’s fishing, the Riverkeeper told us the river was the worst he’d seen it in years, but also that Richard and I had landed more trout and grayling than any other anglers in more than 2 years. That’s what being with Richard does.
